Springfield Crime Blotter: DUI, Theft, Assault, More

A Springfield man is accused of pulling a gun on a group of people then leaving the area while intoxicated. See details on this and more.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township released their weekly crime blotter Monday.

The blotter features incidents that occurred between Aug. 17 and Aug. 22.

Aug. 17 at 10:46 a.m.
Several unlocked vehicles were entered sometime overnight in the area of Foulke Lane. Change and accessories were stolen.

Aug. 18 at 5:03 p.m.
Officers were called to the 200 block Saxer Avenue to investigate a luring complaint. A young male riding his bicycle reported being approached by the passenger inside a moving vehicle. The passenger asked the male if he wanted to get inside the vehicle and offered him candy. The passenger was described as a young, white male with a long red beard. The vehicle was an older style white sedan. Det. McNeely is investigating.

Aug. 18 at 8:20 p.m.
Officers investigated a crash in the parking lot of the Wawa store 100 block Saxer Avenue involving a vehicle which backed into a pole. They observed the driver of the vehicle to be intoxicated, and he was arrested. The 25-year-old male from Springfield refused to provide a blood sample and was turned over to family. A small amount of drugs were recovered from the vehicle. Charges for DUI and Drug Offenses will be filed.

Aug. 19 at 1:37 p.m.
Detective Devaney is investigating an attempted burglary at the Eastcoast Gas Station 600 block West Springfield Road. At about 12:01 a.m. a male subject attempted to pry a door to the building. The male was unsuccessful and drove away. A female was observed with the male, and they left together.

Aug. 20 at 12:40 a.m.
Officers responded to the 100 block Saxer Avenue for an altercation involving a group of people and a male who pointed a gun. Upon arrival to the scene, one male had left the area in a vehicle. That vehicle was stopped on the Powell Road and the male identified. He was found to be intoxicated and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Greg Amato, 44, of Springfield, was taken into custody and charged with DUI, Assault and related offenses. He refused a blood test and was taken to Central Booking for arraignment.

Aug. 20 at 5:01 p.m.
Officers responded to the Springfield Square South shopping center 1000 block Baltimore Pike to investigate a disorderly person. They located a male in the parking lot who appeared to be intoxicated on narcotics. They located a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, crack and paraphernalia in his possession. He was also found to have an active arrest warrant out of Delaware County. James White, 31, of Broomall, was taken into custody and transported to central booking for arraignment on drug charges.

Aug. 20 at 6:29 p.m.
A resident of the 300 block Hawarden Road reported his vehicle was egged sometime overnight.
A home and a vehicle were vandalized twice during the week on the 200 block Midland Road.

Aug. 22 at 5 p.m.
A resident reported his silver Mongoose bike was stolen outside near Carrabba’s Restaurant at the mall 1200 block Baltimore Pike while he was inside.
