Springfield Crime Blotter: DUIs, Thefts

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.
Incidents in the blotter occurred between Aug. 16 and Aug. 22.

Aug. 16 at 9:56 p.m.
Officer Gary Walsh responded to a single vehicle crash in the 600 block of West Woodland Avenue. The driver, 40 years old from Springfield, was found to be intoxicated. The driver sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Charges for DUI are pending.
Aug. 19 at 9:02 p.m.
Macy’s, 1300 block of Baltimore Pike, reported a shoplifter in custody. A 55-year-old Morton woman was observed concealing merchandise in a backpack and personal bag. She was detained by security as she attempted to leave the store. The stolen items totaled $212. She was processed at the police station and released to a family member. She will be charged with Retail Theft.

Aug. 20 at 8:20 p.m.
The manager of Ulta, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Two females and one male entered the store together and concealed merchandise from the fragrance section. They exited the store and left the area in a white SUV. The stolen items totaled $873. Det. Dan McNeely is investigating.
Aug. 21 at 2:55 a.m.
While on patrol in the 1000 block of Baltimore Pike, Officer Gary Walsh Police observed a vehicle heading west with heavy front-end damage and leaking fluids. He stopped the vehicle and observed airbag deployment and a cracked windshield. While speaking with the driver, Officer Walsh observed signs of intoxication. The driver, Jada Jareese Gatewood, 24 years old from Philadelphia, was taken into custody for DUI. She was processed at the police station and released to a family member.
Aug. 21 at 2:46 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to Giant, 721 West Sproul Road, for a theft. A female loaded her cart with energy drinks and exited the store. A Giant employee confronted the woman in the parking lot and was able to recover the merchandise after a brief struggle. The woman left the lot in a blue, Chevy S-10 pickup truck. The merchandise recovered totaled $125. Det. Dan McNeely is investigating.
Aug. 22 at 6:17 p.m.
Best Buy, 642 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Two males loaded a shopping cart with four Dyson vacuum cleaners and left the store. They were seen exiting the lot in a silver Dodge Durango. The stolen items totaled $3050. Det. Dan McNeely is investigating.
