Springfield Crime Blotter: Fatal Crash, Theft, DUI, More

Police said a driver died after crashing into a tree on the 300 block of North Bishop Avenue in the early hours of New Year's Day.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.

Incidents included occurred between Dec. 28 and Jan. 2.

Dec. 28 at 10:35 a.m.
A resident of the 400 block of Lynbrooke Road reported Christmas decorations were damaged. Two inflatable decorations were found to be torn sometime overnight Dec. 22. Two subjects were believed to be involved. Sgt. J. DiTrolio is investigating.

Dec. 28 at 4:38 p.m.
Employees at Voski Jewelers, 200 block of Baltimore Pike, reported four subjects who were inside the store shopping grabbed a watch from the counter and ran out of the store. The subjects were last seen running towards Cambridge Rd. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

Dec. 28 at 9:07 p.m.
A resident of the 100 block of Harwicke Road reported a group of juveniles loitering in the area had pulled a window off a storm door causing damage.

Dec. 28 at 9:34 p.m.
Multiple vehicles and houses were struck with eggs in the area of White Oak Road. There have been
several reports of late involving the same mischief, and a group of suspects was stopped and identified. Investigation is continuing.

Dec. 31 at 5:19 p.m.
A shopper at Giant, 700 block of West Sproul Road, reported she briefly walked away from her shopping cart, and when she returned her cart was gone and replaced with a different cart. Her purse had been in the cart. Investigation revealed an unknown female took the cart and walked out of the store. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

Dec. 31 at 11:10 p.m.
While on patrol, Officer Clifton observed a vehicle stopped on State Road near Collins Drive with the driver wandering around the outside of the vehicle. The vehicle then moved to an area off the highway and stopped again. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was missing its quarter panel, and the driver was intoxicated. It was not learned where the accident may have occurred, but the driver, a 23-year-old man of Maryland, was taken into custody for DUI. He refused a blood test and was brought to headquarters for arraignment. Once arraigned, he was released from custody.

Jan. 1 at 1 a.m.
Officers responded to a crash on the 300 block of North Bishop Avenue in which a vehicle struck a tree in front of a house. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The vehicle had been travelling south on Bishop Avenue and failed to negotiate the curve. Investigation is continuing by the Delaware County Crash Team and Det. McCarthy.

Jan. 2 at 10:50 p.m.
A resident of the 300 block West Leamy Avenue reported a rock was thrown through the front window to the house.
