Springfield Crime Blotter: Stolen Car Crash, Theft, DUI, More

Police said a Lancaster man, 22, drove a stolen vehicle into a home, striking a gas line, and was armed. See details on this and more here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield issued their newest crime blotter Monday.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between Dec. 1 and Dec. 5.

Dec. 1 at 9:12 a.m.
Officers were called by a witness who observed a pickup truck strike traffic signs on Baltimore Pike and continue to Barker Road where it struck a parked vehicle. Officers located the pickup truck in the area of Woodland Avenue and Baltimore Pike. The driver, 31, of Secane, was found to be under the influence of an opioid. He was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was kept at a hospital for treatment. Charges for DUI, hit and run, and drug offenses are pending.

Dec. 1 at 4:57 p.m.
A 20-year-old female from Swarthmore was taken into custody at Macy’s in the mall for stealing over $330 worth of jewelry and clothing from the store. She was released, and charges for Retail Theft will be filed.

Dec. 1 at 9:52 p.m.
We received three reports from employees of businesses along the 300 and 600 blocks of Baltimore Pike of the thefts of catalytic converters from their vehicles which occurred sometime during the afternoon.

Dec. 3 at 4:23 p.m.
A 37-year-old female from Drexel Hill will be charged with Public Drunkenness. Witnesses reported the female fell as she walked her young child on the Springfield Mall property. Officers located the female and her 4-year-old son in the rear of the property, and the female was found to be intoxicated. She and her son were released to family.

Dec. 5 at 12:16 a.m.
Two juveniles from Drexel Hill will be charged with Criminal Mischief after they threw eggs from their vehicle at another vehicle striking the driver as both travelled along the 1100 block of Baltimore Pike.

Dec. 5 at 1:47 p.m.
Officers responded to a house on the 1500 block of Wallingford Road to investigate a vehicle which had just driven into a house. The vehicle damaged a porch on the property and struck a gas line. Investigation revealed the driver had stolen the vehicle from a lot in Nether Providence just prior to the crash. He was also in possession of a loaded firearm. The driver was identified as a 22-year-old from Lancaster. He needed medical assistance and was transported to a hospital. Various charges will be filed.
