Springfield Crime Blotter: Trespassing, DUI, Theft, More

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township issued their weekly crime blotter Monday, and we have the details.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between July 27 and Aug. 2.

July 27 at 3:53 p.m.
Officers were called to investigate a road rage incident involving one of the drivers having a knife on the 700 block West Springfield Road. The incident started after a driver cut off another driver on Springfield Road. While stopped for a red signal, one driver attempted to take a picture of the license plate and the other driver showed a knife and threatened to use it. A 28-year-old male from Sharon Hill was cited for Disorderly Conduct and Traffic Offenses.

July 27 at 10:58 p.m.
A resident of the 400 block Ridge Lane reported his mailbox and post was knocked over. He did observe a group of juveniles in the area running through yards.

July 28 at 11:30 a.m.
Springfield Police had obtained an arrest warrant for Nicholas Dorner, 29, of Philadelphia, for numerous counts of Theft. Over a two-week period, Dorner was suspected of entering unlocked vehicles and stealing money, purses, and credit cards. On this date, Philadelphia Police observed Dorner in the South Philadelphia area and took him into custody. He was turned over to Springfield Officers and taken to Central Booking for arraignment.

July 28 at 1:01 p.m.
A 58-year-old male from Springfield will be charged with Disorderly Conduct after entering a SEPTA trolley at Woodland Avenue, failing to pay the fare, and yelling at the operator. He was removed from the trolley and sent home.

July 29 at 12:15 a.m.
Officers were called to the Days Inn 600 block Baltimore Pike to investigate a domestic altercation between a male and female. While assisting the female gather some belongings to leave, an officer was struck in the face by the male who was attempting to stop the female. The male was then arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. Lucian Martin, 27, of Philadelphia, was taken to Central Booking for arraignment.

July 29 at 4:37 a.m.
Officers responded to the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Sproul Road to check on an unconscious person in the driver seat of a vehicle. The male, 50, of Swarthmore, was found to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was turned over to a friend, and charges for DUI are pending.

July 31 at 4:34 a.m.
While on patrol, officers observed a male subject passed out along the curb on the 600 block Saxer Avenue. He was found to be intoxicated on an unknown substance and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A 36-year-old male from Upper Darby will be charged with Public Drunkenness.

July 31 at 9:22 a.m.
Officers responded to the Target store 800 block Baltimore Pike for a report of a male who appeared to be intoxicated carrying a knife on his belt and having trouble using their ATM. He left the area of the ATM and then selected a backpack from display and walked out of the store failing to pay. Officers located the male entering a vehicle and driving to the CVS lot across the street. The male attempted to dump the backpack inside the CVS and was stopped by police. Michael Rainey, 36, of Upper Darby was taken into custody, charged with summary Retail Theft and released.

July 31 at 12:28 p.m.
Officers were called to the Target store 800 block Baltimore Pike for a subject trespassing. A subject from an earlier theft had been told he could not be inside the store. The subject returned and was walking around erratically and talking to himself. Officer located Michael Rainey, 36, of Upper Darby. He was charged with Criminal Trespass and taken for arraignment.

Aug. 1 at 11:59 a.m.
Officers went to the Best Buy store 600 block Baltimore Pike to investigate a theft of an employee’s cell phone. The employee reported he had walked away from his phone while attending to a customer. The customer then placed the phone in his pocket and exited the store. Officers found the suspect staying at the Days Inn next door and recovered the stolen phone from the suspect’s vehicle. Donte Josiah, 21, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody and taken for arraignment. He was charged with Theft and also found to have an active arrest warrant out of Philadelphia.

Aug. 2 at 6:07 a.m.
Officers responded to the 300 block Rambling Way for a report of a male subject sleeping in the side yard of a property. They found the male, 18, of Springfield, who was highly intoxicated and in need of medical assistance. The male was transported to a hospital. A short time later, police were called to Springfield Hospital for a disorderly subject who had urinated near the hospital entrance doors as he was refusing to cooperate with treatment. Officers located him stumbling on Thomson Avenue and took him into custody. He was then turned over to family. Charges for Public Drunkenness, UAD, and Disorderly Conduct will be filed.
