Springfield Man Charged With Making Child Porn

Federal authorities allege a Springfield man made child pornography by photographing a child he had access to and tried to distribute it.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — A Springfield man is facing federal child pornography charges after federal authorities alleged he took photos of a child he had access to and tried to distribute those photos.

United States Attorney William M. McSwain said Peter Gilbert, 36, of Springfield, was arrested and charged with one count of manufacturing and attempting to manufacture child pornography, and one count of distributing and attempting to distribute child pornography.

Federal authorities allege Gilbert took sexually explicit images of a child to whom he previously had access and that he distributed those images to an undercover federal agent over the internet.

If convicted, Gilbert faces a statutory maximum sentence of 50 years in prison, with a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence of imprisonment, a lifetime of supervised release, and a $500,000 fine.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from Delaware County District Attorney Detectives and the Springfield Township Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly Harrell.
