Springfield SD Taxes Up Over 30 Percent In Last Decade: Report

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Rising taxes levied by school districts is nothing new, as greater demands from teachers unions, new teaching methods, technology improvements, and more create strains on district budgets. And a new report from the Philadelphia Inquirer tracked how much districts in the greater Philadelphia area have raised taxes over the last decade, Springfield School District included.

In the report, the Inquirer charted out tax increases imposed by districts in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties over the last 10 years.

According to the report, the Springfield School District has raised taxes by more than 30 percent over the last decade.

A 30.4 percent increase was charted over those ten years.

The district approved a millage rate hike for the 2018-2019 year, meaning an average tax bill increase of $113 for district residents.

The other area school districts with high 10-year changes are Haverford (43.7 percent), Southeast Delco (43.2 percent), and Penn-Delco (33.2 percent).
