Boyertown will have trouble stopping the speedy Furia on the attack. Complimented by a strong defense, the Cougars have a formula to come out on top.

“Even though we are in a different league and we don’t know anything about them, we aren’t afraid of them,” said Furia. “We are looking for the win.”

The Cougars are stumbling a bit into the playoffs. In the last three contests, Springfield has been outscored, 6-4, which is highly unusual for their talented defensive unit.

The team couldn’t hold off Lower Merion on Tuesday, despite scoring first. Kyle Chevalier scored for Springfield in a 2-1 loss.

On Thursday, Springfield was able to defeat Interboro, 3-1. They used three first-half goals to take an early lead.

Furia and Mark Gurenlian scored for the Cougars.

“It is a whole new season,” said Furia. “The regular season is over and we are just going to put that behind us.”

Field Hockey

The field hockey team ended their season on a winning note. On Tuesday, the team defeated Lower Merion, 3-1.

The Lady Cougars were down at halftime, as head coach Brittany Piotti gave a speech at intermission to spark her team.

Junior forwards Stephanie Cant and Nicole Ward added the spark that Springfield needed to put the Aces away as they each finished with a goal.

On Thursday, Springfield defeated Interboro, 2-1.

Junior Nicole Ward scored both goals for Springfield.

The Lady Cougars’ core group will be returning next season, as they will look to improve their league record.

Springfield finished with a 7-9 overall record and 5-6 in the Central League.

Girls’ Soccer

The Springfield girls’ soccer team couldn’t muster a goal the entire week. The team was shut out, 4-0 by Lower Merion on Monday.

Things did not get any better on Thursday against Radnor as the Lady Cougars lost 2-0.

The team ended the season on a three-game losing streak.

Football

The Cougars played in a classic game Friday evening as the team lost on a missed extra point to Garnet Valley for a final score of 42-41.

The Cougars allowed Garnet Valley to score 28 unanswered points.

The loss snapped the Cougars’ undefeated season, as they are now 7-1.

Springfield returns on its home field on Friday to take on Strath Haven.
