Teacher Profile: Making a Splash in Springfield

Find out what Typhoon Lagoon, Radnor Color Guard, and ET Richardson Middle School all have in common,


Kathleen Lane is a sixth grade language arts and social studies teacher at ET Richardson Middle School in Springfield.

She grew up in Wayne, graduated from West Chester University, and is currently a graduate student at Cabrini College. 

What do you love about teaching in Springfield?

"I love that I wake up every morning excited to go to work because no day is ever the same," said Lane.  "I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me. I have always loved working with kids, and I couldn’t ask to be a part of a better community."

Radnor High School Color Guard

In high school, Lane was a member of the Radnor High School Color Guard and she has spent the past seven years coaching it. 

"I was extremely honored to be able to give back and continue to make an impact at my alma mater," said Lane. "I have taken a few years off from color guard to pursue my graduate degree at Cabrini College, but I cannot wait to have the opportunity to return to the activity."

Who was your favorite teacher?

"One of my favorite teachers was my seventh grade Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Laird," said Lane. "We always had the most fun in class, and she created incredibly engaging projects. I remember her so well because she was the first teacher that made me excited about Social Studies."

Typhoon Lagoon and Whatsapp

Lane spent the summer working at Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World.

"I made a lot of new friends from many different countries," said Lane. "My favorite app right now is 'Whatsapp' because it allows me to communicate with my friends in different countries without costing any money."

What is currently your favorite song on your iPod?

"Home by Philip Phillips," said Lane.
