Ferguson Twp. police introduce first electric patrol cruiser in Centre region (lockhaven.com) — Ferguson Township Police, serving the State College area, have rolled out their first fully electric Chevrolet Blazer EV patrol cruiser, aiming to cut emissions and long-term costs. The new vehicle offers zero-emission patrols, 280-mile range, protected idle mode, and reduced maintenance, which township officials say should save tax dollars without sacrificing performance or public safety.
2. After Struggling to Support Himself in High School, Freshman Ryan Sim Is Ready to Chart His Own Course (bu.edu subscription) — A former State College Area High School student is heading to Boston University after navigating a difficult senior year living independently in State College, working two jobs to cover rent and food. His story highlights the support he received from the local school system and how that experience of resilience and community shaped his goals as a first-year business student.
3. Students show how they're using artificial intelligence at second annual AI showcase (psucollegian.com) — Penn State students packed the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub in State College to demo 41 AI projects to visiting companies, from medical imaging tools to robot-controlling neural circuits. With local organizers and residents involved, the showcase aimed to connect State College talent with employers and inspire more students to experiment with accessible AI tools across majors.
4. Protesters gather in opposition of ICE activity in State College (psucollegian.com) — Protesters gathered at Old Main in State College to oppose Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity on campus and at the State College Regional Airport, urging Penn State to cut cooperation with the agency. Students and residents marched through campus buildings, voicing concerns about safety, deportations, and family separation while calling on the university to better protect its community.
