1 Rescued After Being Carried 100 Feet By Floods: Berwyn Fire Co

The Berwyn Fire Company saved a resident who was stuck in a storm culvert Monday morning after traveling about 100 feet under water.

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA – Tredyffrin Township Police and the Berwyn Fire Company were quite busy Monday handling numerous calls from Monday's harsh weather than hit the Philadelphia region, with the fire company rescuing a resident who was swept away in a storm culvert.

The fire company was called to the 900 block of Eagle School Road for a water rescue after a resident from a flooding storm culvert at about 9:16 a.m. Monday.

When responders found the person, they were clutched to a tree as waters rushed by and the fire company said the person traveled about 100 feet under water below Devon Park Drive and the Chester Valley Trail in the stormwaters.

Luckily, crews were able to safely rescue the person from the culvert and took them to Paoli Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Responders got 36 calls Monday morning, 18 of which were for water rescues.

Police said residents and officers who have decades of living experience in the township reported never seeing flash flooding like Monday's.
