Alleged Main Line Seminary Sexual Harassment Investigated: Report

The Philadelphia Archdiocese is looking into alleged sexual harassment at a Main Line seminary school that occurred in 2010 and 2011.

On the heels of a disturbing report that details sexual abuse by Catholic priests in Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Archdiocese is investigating sexual harassment allegations levied against a seminary school on the Main Line St. Charles Borromeo seminary.

Philly.com reports the Archdiocese is looking into claims made by a former student at Wynnewood's St. Charles Borromeo Seminary that they were sexually harassed in 2010 and 2011.

The former student, John Monaco, 25, of Boston, chronicled the alleged abuse in two online publications, the Church Militant and Medium.

Monaco, then 17, alleges that starting in the fall of 2010 older seminarians began sexually harassing him. In one instance he reported being asked about masturbation and pornography and in another instance he claims he was groped at a party fueled by alcohol, which Monaco suggests was possibly spiked with something.

The Archdiocese announced its investigation – spurred by complaints made on social media – via a letter sent to priests and deacons.

Monaco wrote on Church Militant that he left St. Charles Borromeo after his freshman year and then attend a Catholic university then St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts.

Patch has reached out to the Philadelphia Archdiocese for comment on the investigation and will update the story when we hear back.
