Berwyn Synagogue Jan. 10 Lecture Features Seven Summits Climber
Discover What Endodontist Dr. Bruce Terry Learned From The Extreme Sport Of Alpine Climbing Where The Only Way To Go Is Up

If you asked local endodontist Dr. Bruce Terry, “what could be more fun than a root canal?” he might surprise you with the answer. This full time dentist is a part-time mountaineer having the rare distinction of climbing the highest mountains of the seven continents. Hear the lessons he learned making his way uphill on January 10 at Congregation Or Shalom as part of its popular Friday Night Speakers Series.
Open to the public, the Friday Night Lecture Series on January 10, 2020 begins with 7:30 pm Shabbat services followed by an 8:15 pm presentation by Dr. Terry. Congregation Or Shalom, the western Main Line’s Conservative synagogue, is conveniently located in Berwyn on Route 252, between Lancaster Avenue (Route 30) and Route 3.
Mount Everest? Mount Kilimanjaro? Dr. Terry has checked off climbing the Seven Summits on his bucket list with travels to Russia, Argentina, Indonesia and Alaska. He made “practice” climbs in exotic places like Cho Oyu, Tibet. The former president of the Pennsylvania Dental Association even took his American Dental Association (ADA) flag to the summit of Vinson Massif, the highest point in Antarctica. He has a picture to prove it.

"As an endodontist, I spend my days looking in the tiniest of little spaces. I go and mountain climb to try to get the big picture of life," Dr. Terry explained. "Mountaineering puts me in opportunities to see the bigger picture and have challenges that are different. It does relate to dentistry because, at the end of the day, patients are challenges; teeth are challenges; insurance companies are challenges. Mountaineering teaches me patience, how to look for opportunities and to always be my best."
He completed his Seven Summits goal in May 2019 when he reached the summit of Mount Everest with his climbing group in Nepal. Congregation members will hear about his decades-long training routines and the thrill of reaching the top of the world’s highest peaks.
