Back in 1901, Annie Edson Taylor made history by being the first person to take a plunge into the Niagara Falls in a wooden pickle barrel. Ms. Taylor was a 63-year-old schoolteacher and widower.
According to history.com, “With the help of two assistants, Taylor strapped herself into a leather harness inside an old wooden pickle barrel five feet high and three feet in diameter. With cushions lining the barrel to break her fall, Taylor was towed by a small boat into the middle of the fast-flowing Niagara River and cut loose.”
Ms. Taylor survived the jump and won fame and cash.

Newman and Redford shine in the opening of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”
Back in 1969, actors Paul Newman and Robert Redford teamed up as the Old West back robbers in the film classic, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

According to history.com, “The film was a commercial and critical success, receiving seven Oscar nominations (including Best Picture and Best Director) and winning in the categories of Best Screenplay (William Goldman), Best Song (Burt Bacharach’s “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”), Best Score and Best Cinematography.”
"Live at the Apollo,” album records crossover success for James Brown
Back in 1962, singer, James Brown performed a breakthrough performance at the Apollo Theater in NYC. He would name this live album, “Live at the Apollo.”
According to history.com, “Released in May 1963, Live at the Apollo ended up spending an astonishing 66 weeks on the Billboard album chart and selling upwards of a million copies, giving James Brown his first smash hit album and setting him on a course for his incredible crossover success in the mid-1960's and beyond.”
His crossover success lead him to appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand.
