Future President Andrew Johnson is Born
Back in 1808 in Raleigh, NC future 17th President, Andrew Johnson was born. Mr. Johnson would be a politician from the age of 26, holding the position of Mayor of Greenville, Tennessee legislature, Governor of Tennessee, U.S. Senator and then finally accepting Abrahams Lincoln’s offer to run as his Vice President during Lincoln’s second term in 1864.
The whitehouse.org website stated that, “with the Assassination of Lincoln, the Presidency fell upon an old-fashioned southern Jacksonian Democrat of pronounced states' rights views. Although an honest and honorable man, Andrew Johnson was one of the most unfortunate of Presidents. Arrayed against him were the Radical Republicans in Congress, brilliantly led and ruthless in their tactics. Johnson was no match for them.”

Mr. Johnson would son become the President of the U.S. after Lincoln’s assassination.
On April 14, 1865, within three years of Johnson’s Presidency, he would be charged with “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and 11 articles of impeachment.

According to history.com, “After all the arguments had been presented for and against him, Johnson waited for his fate, which hung on one swing vote. By a vote of 35 to 19, Johnson was acquitted and finished out his term.”
President Johnson tried to launch a political comeback in 1875 by running for the Senate in his wife Eliza’s home state of Tennessee, however after his re-election he passed away due to a stroke at the age of 67.
