Back in 1972, comedian and all around entertainer, Bob Hope completed his last show to U.S. servicemen within nine consecutive Christmas appearances in Saigon, Vietnam.
Mr. Hope was well known for his USO Shows in which he travelled to overseas U.S military bases abroad. According to history.com, “Hope was one of many Hollywood stars who followed the tradition of travelling overseas to entertain American troops stationed abroad. The 1972 show marked Hope's ninth consecutive Christmas appearance in Vietnam. Hope endorsed President Nixon's bombing of North Vietnam to force it to accept U.S. peace terms, and received South Vietnam's highest civilian medal for his "anti-communist zeal." Although some antiwar protesters criticized Hope for supporting government policies in Vietnam, the comedian said he believed it was his responsibility to lift spirits by entertaining the troops.”

Back in 1988 during the era of “glam metal,” the Rock Band, “Poison,” reached Billboard’s 100 with their hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” The lyrics of this song reflected a love lost with this chorus below:
Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn
The lead singer of this group is Bret Michaels who is well known for his win on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice.
