Christopher Columbus famous expedition - This Day in History – Oct 12th

Back in 1492, Italian Explorer, Christopher Columbus was pursuing an expedition sponsored by Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain.  Mr. Columbus was trying to find an alternative western route to China, India and Asia’s fabled gold and spice.

According to history.com, “During his lifetime, Columbus led a total of four expeditions to the New World, discovering various Caribbean islands, the Gulf of Mexico, and the South and Central American mainlands, but he never accomplished his original goal—a western ocean route to the great cities of Asia. Columbus died in Spain in 1506 without realizing the great scope of what he did achieve: He had discovered for Europe the New World, whose riches over the next century would help make Spain the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth.”

Singer, songwriter, John Denver dies 

Back in 1997, Henry John Deutschendorf, aka. John Denver, who wrote and sang popular tunes such as:

• Annie's Song
• Take Me Home, Country Roads
• Rocky Mountain High
• Sunshine On My Shoulders
• Thank God I'm A Country Boy

died in his experimental amateur plane, which crashed into the coast of  Montery Bay, CA.  Born in Roswell, New Mexico, Mr. Denver song’s featured a country and folksong appeal.

According to history.com, “A movie star and political activist as well as a musician, John Denver was one of the biggest stars of his generation, and is credited by the Recording Industry Association of America with selling more than 32 million albums in the United States alone.”
