The Dukes and General Lee debuts on CBS

Back in 1979, CBS television premiered a successful show "The Dukes of Hazzard," which ran for seven seasons about two good-old-boys-cousins “Bo Duke” (John Schneider)  & “Luke Duke” (Tom Wopat) and a very fast orange 1969 Dodge Charger named the “General Lee.”  With the help of their Duke boy’s cousin, “Daisy Duke,” (Catherine Bach) this gang helped people in need and always outsmarted the local sheriff “Boss Jefferson Davis Hogg,” (Sorrell Booke).

According to history.com,"The Dukes of Hazzard" was known for its car chases and stunts and the General Lee, which had an orange paint job, a Confederate flag across its roof and the numbers "01" on its welded-shut doors, became a star of the show. The General Lee also had a horn that played the first 12 notes of the song "Dixie." Due to all the fast driving, jumps and crashes, it was common for several different General Lees to be used during the filming of each episode.”

A 2005 big screen movie remake was created based on this television show which showed its final episode in August 1985.  The movie starred, Jessica Simpson, Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville.
