Conestoga Crew Rows at Philadelphia City Championships Regatta

After a chilly start for the morning preliminary qualifying (time trial head racing) races, the afternoon featured brilliant sunshine and pleasant temperatures for spectators and rowers alike as the Finals got underway with Conestoga qualifying thirteen boats for the PSRA Philadelphia City Championships.

Callie Maslowsky and Ivy Hollander won Bronze medals (3rd place) in the Freshman/Novice Girls 2X followed by a Gold medal performance (1st place) by Emily Hompe, Caroline Gosnear, Carly Robins, and Leah Palomo in the Girls Freshman 4X while Ted McGovern, Michael Kling, Ryan Hollinger, and Jacob Novak matched the girls effort by winning Gold medals in the Freshman Boys 4x event. 

Moving to the Junior Varsity level, Madeline Beirne and Rachael Devlin won Gold medals in the Girls JV 2X, followed by Richard Stone and Hanan Zisling finishing 4^th in the Boys JV 2X.  The crew of Sarah Thomas, Rachael Devlin, Amy Connell, and Isabel Geddes won Gold medals with their  1^st place finish in the JV Girls 4X. 

Next were the Lightweight events with Sophie Bodek and Angela Sarkisian finished 4^th in the Ltwt Girls 2x while Jenny Alcorn, Emer Ryle, Katie Groves, and Maddy Amsterdam won Gold medals with a 1^st place finish in the Ltwt Girls 4X, and Niall Carlson, Steven Devlin, Max Malarkey, and Nick McNamara won Silver medals with their 2nd place finish in the Ltwt Boys 4X event.

The day concluded with the Varsity events where Brianna Kaufmann and Molly Dudrear finished 4^th in the Varsity Girls 2X.  The Girls crew of Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti continued their winning ways with a Gold medal performance in the Girls Varsity 4X, while Sean Pepin, Tyler Simpson, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz finished 4^th in Varsity Boys 4X. 

The Conestoga Crew Club team will be traveling to Mercer Lake next Saturday for the 2013 US Rowing Mid-Atlantic Junior District Championships and a chance to qualify for the 2013 US Rowing Youth National Championships held June 7-9, 2013, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
