Conestoga Crew Team at 87th Stotesbury Cup Regatta
'Stoga crew team results from the 87th Stotesbury Cup regatta held last weekend
Conestoga Crew Club participated in the 87th Stotesbury Cup Regatta with eleven boats beginning competition on Friday morning with time trials. Following boat lineup changes introduced earlier in the week, all eleven boats entered successfully made it through the morning qualifiers and into the the semi-final round of racing; the Girls and Boys Freshman 4X qualified directly to the Finals competition on Saturday afternoon after their morning time trial.
Under brilliant sunshine and light breezes, the semi-final competition for the Conestoga crew team came later in the afternoon. Madeline Beirne and Rachael Devlin the Girls Junior 2X finished 4th in their semi-final heat of while Richard Stone and Hanan Zisling finished 5th in their heat of the Boys Junior 2X; unfortunately, both race outcomes did not qualify their boats for the Finals. Next, the Girls Ltwt 2X boat finished 1st, and the Boys Ltwt 2X finished 2nd in their heat races and qualified both boats for the Saturday Finals.
Semi-final competition resumed Saturday morning with mixed results for the Conestoga rowers as Max Malarkey, Nick McNamara, Jared Ingersoll, and Andrey Lanahan finished 4th in the Boys JV 4X and were eliminated from further racing, but the Girls JV 4X boat finished 1st in their semi-final heat and the Girls Varsity 2X boat finished 2nd in their semi-final heat qualifying both boats for the Finals later in the day. The Girls Varsity 4X and Boys Varsity 4X concluded Conestoga’s morning of semi-final competition with the girls boat finishing 1st in their heat and boys boat finishing 2nd in their heat to move on to the Finals.

The Freshman Boys 4X Final featured Ted McGovern, Ryan Hollinger, Michael Kling, and Jacob Novak finishing 5th in their race, while Emily Hompe, Caroline Gosnear, Carly Robins, and Leah Palomo finished 2nd to take home Silver medals in the Freshman Girls 4X event. The Girls Ltwt 2X team of Emer Ryle and Maddy Amsterdam raced next finishing 3rd and received Bronze medals, while the Boys Ltwt 2X crew of Niall Carlson and Steven Devlin finished 4th. The Girls Junior 4X crew of Sarah Thomas, Annina Ruggerillo, Amy Connell, and Isabel Geddes won Silver medals with their 2nd place finish in the Finals, and Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann won Bronze medals with their 3rd place finish in the Girls Varsity 2X event. The crew of Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti repeated their 2012 Girls Varsity 4X Gold medal effort with their 1st place finish in the 2013 Final; and the crew of Sean Pepin, Nathan Leibowitz, Tyler Simpson, and Brian Kane earned Bronze medals with their 3rd place finish in the Boys Varsity 4X Finals.

The season continues next weekend as the Conestoga Crew Club crosses the Delaware river to compete in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s National Championships on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ.
