Conestoga Crew Team Results - Mercer Lake / 5th Manny Flick

Results from last weekends regatta at Mercer Lake, NJ (ISA Sculling Championships) and the 5th Manny Flick / Horvat Series regatta

The Conestoga Crew team traveled to Mercer Lake, NJ on Friday and Saturday for the ISA Sculling Championships.  Singles and doubles crews raced Friday afternoon into the early evening.  Sophie Bodek and Angela Sarkasian were in the Women’s Ltwt Double finishing 2nd; Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann finished 3rd in the Women’s Double competition; Madeleine Beirne and Amy Connell finished 2nd in their heat of a Women’s Double race,  while Carrie Maslowsky and Ivy Hollander finished 4th in their heat of a Women’s Double race. More  results include a 5th place finish by freshman Ryan Hollinger in his heat of a Men’s Singles race, and a 4th place finish by Richard Stone and Hanan Zisling in a Men’s Double race.

Saturday dawned in stark contrast to Friday as the skies cleared, temperatures dropped, and winds freshened resulting in “breakers” on the lake.  The crew of Emily Hompe, Caroline Gosnear, Carly Robins, and Leah Palomo qualified for the Finals by finishing 1st in the Women’s Novice Quad race; Ted McGovern, Michael Kling, Jacob Hinderer, and Jacob Novak finished 1st to move on to the Finals in their heat of the Men’s Novice Quad race, while Anders Backstrom, Maarten Monster, Austin Coney, and Carleton Monster finished 4th in that same preliminary race; and  Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti qualified for the afternoon Finals by finishing 1st in the Women’s Varsity  Quad race; Sean Pepin, Tyler Simpson, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz finished 4th in the Men’s Varsity Quad race.   High winds caused unsafe conditions on the water as the afternoon progressed leading regatta officials to suspend, and later, cancel racing for the day.  None of the scheduled race Finals were held.

With somewhat calmer conditions prevailing on Sunday, the Conestoga Crew team returned to the “river” for the 5th Manny Flick / Horvat Series Regatta, the final race before the PSRA City Championships on May 6th.    The boys had the chilly morning race times with Andrey Lanahan and Jared Ingersoll starting the racing off with a 5th place finish in the Varsity 2X; Sean Pepin, Tyler Simpson, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz finished 3rd in the Varsity 4X; and Niall Carlson, Steven Devlin, Max Malarkey, and Nick McNamara finished 2nd in the Ltwt 4X.  “Head” racing followed, with Jacob Hinderer racing in the Novice 1X; Anders Backstrom, Maarten Monster, Austin Coney, and Carleton Monster in the Novice 4X; Ted McGovern, Michael Kling, Ryan Hollinger, and Jacob Novak in the Freshman 4X; Richard Stone and Hanan Zisling in the JV 2X.
