Conestoga Crew Team Wraps Up 2013 Season at US Rowing Nationals
The Crew team concluded their 2013 season by competing with the nation's best schools and clubs at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The Conestoga Crew team had to travel far for their last regatta of the season. Over land and through the air, the team arrived in Oak Ridge, TN last Thursday for the US Rowing Youth National Championships.
After a brief delay on Friday morning due to fog, racing got underway with preliminary heats; Conestoga entered two boats in the Womens Youth LTWT 2X with Katie Groves and Jenny Alcorn finishing 5th in their heat, while Emer Ryle and Maddy Amsterdam finishing 2nd in their heat. Next, the Womens Youth 2X team of Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann finished 5th in their heat, and the Mens Youth LTWT 2X duo of Tyler Simpson and Steven Devlin finished 6th in their heat. Later, Andrey Lanahan and Jared Ingersoll placed 4th in their heat of the Mens Youth 2X, while Niall Carlson, Sean Pepin, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz finished 2nd in their heat of the Mens Youth 4X. Conestoga had two boats entered in the Womens Youth 4X with the team of Sarah Thomas, Annina Ruggerillo, Amy Connell, and Isabel Geddes finishing 3rd in their heat while the team of Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti finished 3rd in their qualifying heat race. The day was not over for all, there was repechage (a second round of qualifying to determine the semi-finalists) racing for the Mens and Womens Youth LTWT 2X and Womens Youth 2X boats. The team of Emer Ryle and Maddy Amsterdam won their heat to advance to Saturday’s semi-finals, while Katie Groves and Jenny Alcorn finished 4th in their race to qualify for the “C” finals on Sunday. Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann finished 2nd in their Womens Youth 2X race to also advance to the semi-finals. And in a crowded field of Mens Youth LTWT 2X, Tyler Simpson and Steven Devlin finished 5th in their heat.
Saturday morning featured more repechage racing with Andrey Lanahan and Jared Ingersoll finishing 4th in their heat of the Mens Youth 2X and a place in Sunday’s “C” final, a 1st place finish by the Womens Youth 4X team of Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti to earn a spot in the afternoon semi-finals, and the other Womens Youth 4X team Sarah Thomas, Annina Ruggerillo, Amy Connell, and Isabel Geddes finished 3rd and a place in the “C” finals, and a 2nd place finish by Niall Carlson, Sean Pepin, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz in their heat of the Mens Youth 4X and a place in the semi-finals.

In the Saturday afternoon semi-finals, the Womens Youth LTWT 2X team of Emer Ryle and Maddy Amsterdam finished 5th in their heat, and Womens Youth 2X team of Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann finished 6th in their heat to earn places in their respective “B” finals on Sunday. The Mens Youth 4X finished 5th in semi-final racing to earn a place in the “B” finals and the day concluded with the Womens Youth 4X boat finishing 3rd to earn a place in the “A” finals.
Sunday racing was delayed for awhile due to fog, but when racing started Katie Groves and Jenny Alcorn finished 3rd in the Womens Youth LTWT 2X “C” Final, Emer Ryle and Maddy Amsterdam finished 4th in the Womens Youth LTWT 2X “B” Final, Molly Dudrear and Brianna Kaufmann finished 4th in the Womens Youth 2X “B” Final, Andrey Lanahan and Jared Ingersoll finished 5th in the Mens Youth 2X “C” Final, Sarah Thomas, Annina Ruggerillo, Amy Connell, and Isabel Geddes finished 3rd in the Womens Youth 4X “C” Final, Anne Graf, Maddy Tessier-Kay, Megan Hudson, and Rebecca Simonetti finished 5th in the Womens Youth 4X “A” Final, and Niall Carlson, Sean Pepin, Brian Kane, and Nathan Leibowitz placed 4th in the Mens Youth 4X “B” Final.
