Hollywood’s legendary actors Newman and Woodward tie the knot

Back in 1958, two Hollywood actors joined together in marriage in the town of Las Vegas, NV, 33-year-old, Paul Newman and, 28-year-old Joanne Woodward. This was Mr. Newman’s second marriage and Ms. Woodward’s first.

This couple met in the early 1950’s in NYC while being trained under Lee Strasberg’s acting studio in which they trained alongside James Dean, Marlon Brando and Rod Steiger.

According to history.com, “In 1957, Newman was cast opposite Woodward and Orson Welles in The Long, Hot Summer (1958), a film set in a small, sweltering Mississippi town and based on short stories by William Faulkner. By the time filming ended, Newman and Woodward were discreetly living together. After Newman’s divorce from his first wife was finalized, the couple headed to Las Vegas, where they were married in January 1958. After the ceremony, the couple honeymooned at London’s Connaught Hotel.”

The partnership of Newman and Woodward would merge these two actors in movies together, political activism and successful charity work.  Within this marriage union they conceived three children together.  This union would last for 50 years until Mr. Newman’s death at the age of 83 in 2008.
