Elvis Presley receives his draft notice

Back in 1957, rock-and-roll legend, Elvis Presley received his draft notice at his home in Tennessee’s Graceland. Mr. Presley who was called “Elvis the Pelvis,” had starred in Hollywood movies such as “Love Me Tender,” and recorded hit songs such as, “Blue Suede Shoes,” had previously received one deferment while working on his movie, “King Creole,” but would later sign on for a two year stint in the Army. 

Mr. Presley’s fans actually sent tens of thousands of letters to the Army pleading not to enlist Elvis, but he wanted to serve for his country.  He was sworn in as a private in Memphis in March 24, 1958.

Brown and Stubblefield’s “Funky Drummer” is recorded

Back in 1969, musical artist, James Brown’s drummer, Clyde Stubblefield created a unique sound with the song called, “Funky Drummer.”  This song became so popular among other musicians as according to history.com, “you'll hear Clyde Stubblefield's drumming on many of those artists' most famous tracks: Eric B & Rakim's "Lyrics Of Fury" (1988); N.W.A.'s "**** Tha Police" (1988); Public Enemy's "Fight The Power" (1989); LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" (1990); Ice T's "O.G. Original Gangster" (1991). Along with literally hundreds of other hip-hop songs, each of those classics is set to a beat drawn directly from an eight-bar drum break played by Clyde Stubblefield on what is widely believed to be the most sampled record in music history.”
