"Father of Modern Firearms" and "Patsy Cline" - This Day in History – Jan 21st
Future “Father of Modern Firearms” is born
Back in 1855, John Moses Browning, the future gun designer was born in Ogden, UT. Mr. Browning, who was the son of a gunsmith, later developed patents for his American West-Winchester, Remington, Colt and Savages gun designs.
According to history.com, “Impressed by the young man's inventiveness, Winchester asked Browning if he could design a lever-action-repeating shotgun. Browning could and did, but his efforts convinced him that a pump-action mechanism would work better, and he patented his first pump model shotgun in 1888.”

Mr. Browning’s career spanned more that 50 years and his gun designs have created weapons of various deadly tools. History.com, states that, “Amazingly, since Browning's death in 1926, there have been no further fundamental changes in the modern firearm industry.”

Singer, Patsy Cline appears on Arthur Godfrey's show
Back in 1957, country singer, Patsy Cline was introduced on the show, “Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, “ a show somewhat similar to today’s “American Idol.” Ms. Cline’s career was short-lived. According to history.com, “Widely admired for her incredible voice, Cline also stood out for her trailblazing independence as a female star in an era very much dominated by men. As many classic recordings as she left behind, her career was hampered for many years by a terrible recording contract and cut short by her tragic death in an airplane crash en route to Nashville from Kansas City in March 1963.”
Ms. Cline scored a #2 hit with her song, “Walkin' After Midnight,” and would later score #1 hits with, “I Fall to Pieces,” “She's Got You,” and “Crazy.”
The “Talent Scouts,” show featured future singing stars such as, “Pat Boone, Tony Bennett, Lenny Bruce and Marilyn Horne.
