Horror Flick, “House of Wax,” becomes first 3-D film

Back in 1953, actor, Vincent Price debuted in the first official 3-D film, “House of Wax.”  Warner Brothers studio developed this feature film with a three-dimension filming process that used two cameras or a single-twin-lens camera to simulate both the right and left human eye viewer.  These images which were projected simultaneously on a screen created the 3-D effect which could only be seen with special dark glasses.  This stereoscopic experience was also the first horror flick shot in color.

History.com stated that, “directed by Andre De Toth, The House of Wax was a remake of 1933’s Mystery in the Wax Museum. The film told the story of Henry Jarrod (Price), a sculptor who goes insane after his partner burns their wax museum to the ground in order to collect the insurance payout. Jarrod survives the fire and later opens his own wax museum, featuring an exhibit immortalizing crimes past and present, including the murder of his ex-partner by a mysterious disfigured killer. The film’s heroine, played by Phyllis Kirk, eventually discovers that Jarrod himself is the killer, and that the museum’s “sculptures” are all the wax-covered bodies of his victims.”

Beatles member, Paul McCartney, declares band breakup

Back in 1970, musician, Paul McCartney made the announcement that he and the three members of the band, The Beatles have decided to call it quits.  Each member which included John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison will each pursue solo careers.

History.com stated that, “The legendary rock band the Beatles spent the better part of three years breaking up in the late 1960s, and even longer than that hashing out who did what and why. And by the spring of 1970, there was little more than a tangled set of business relationships keeping the group together. Each of the Beatles was pursuing his musical interests outside of the band, and there were no plans in place to record together as a group. But as far as the public knew, this was just a temporary state of affairs.”
