Back in 1897, the first drunk driving arrest was recorded in London, England. George Smith, a 25-year-old taxi driver slammed his taxicab into a building. Mr. Smith paid a fine of 25 shillings after pleading guilty for this offense.
In the U.S. the first laws against drunken driving did not surface until 1910. The numerous occurrences of the DUI’s lead to the invention of a the pre- Breathalyzer called the “Drunkometer.” This machine tested alcohol blood levels via a balloon-like device.

Parade in NYC honors WWI Veterans
Back in 1919, New York City honored World War I Veterans with a Parade that officially ended the First World War. According to history.com, “On this day in 1919, almost one year after an armistice officially ended the First World War, New York City holds a parade to welcome home General John J. Pershing, commander in chief of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF), and some 25,000 soldiers who had served in the AEF’s 1st Division on the Western Front.”
Halle Berry scores her first and only Emmy
Back in 2000, actress Halle Berry received her first and only Emmy Award playing Dorothy Dandridge on an HBO television movie. The movie was titled, “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.” Ms. Berry would later become the first African American to win a Best Actress Oscar for the movie, “Monster’s Ball.”
