Back in 1921, An American officer selected the body of the first “Unknown Soldier,” in the French town of Chalons-sur-Marne. This soldier would be the first to be honored with 77,000 U.S. servicemen who were killed at the front in World War I.
According to history.com, “Bearing the inscription "An Unknown American who gave his life in the World War," the chosen casket traveled to Paris and then to Le Havre, France, where it would board the cruiser Olympia for the voyage across the Atlantic. Once back in the United States, the Unknown Soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington, D.C.”

Chicago takes “If You Leave Me Now” to #1
Back in 1976, the iconic rock band, Chicago scored their first of many #1 hit with the classic ballad, “If You Leave Me Now.” This ballad feature lyrics such as:
"If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me
Uh uh uh uh no baby please don't go"
According to history.com, “Chicago is the most successful experiment in group therapy ever to go down in history," founding member Robert Lamm has said. Critics may never have embraced the group's jazzy, middle-of-the road sound, but with upwards of 150 million albums sold worldwide, it's impossible to refute the quantitative argument for Chicago's greatness.”
King of Late-Night TV, Johnny Carson is born
Back in 1925, Corning, Iowa welcomed Johnny Carson, a man who would become a legendary television talk show host. Mr. Carson was the host of the Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992. Mr. Carson would welcome comedian Groucho Marx as his first guest in 1962. Robin Williams and Bette Midler would be his last guests on his final show in 1992. Mr. Carson lived to the age of 79 until he died of emphysema in 2005.
