Hurricane Irene – Comparison with Floyd and #9

 

When Hurricane Irene runs its destructive course, it will be remembered as a historic natural disaster for years to come.  However, there are comparisons of this storm so far to previous hurricane events. The media has been comparing this system to hurricanes such as Floyd, Bertha and Gloria.  Out of these three the path of Hurricane Floyd seems to be the most accurate in potential destruction of power outage, property damage and of course flooding.

Before hurricanes were given names they were assigned numbers. Hurricane # 9 back in 1945 is also very similar to Hurricane Irene’s path.  All of these hurricanes slammed into similar land areas of the eastern seaboard of the U.S.
