Blog: It takes a Village.

It takes a village to help a neighbor in need and what a wonderful village we have.

It is amazing how one small conversation between two friends could turn into such
a community effort. My friend, Stacey Ballard and I were talking about the
brutal attack and robbery of Mr. Yang at Yang's Market the day after it
happened and we were trying to think of how we could help. We figured after his
emergency surgery there would be many, many medical bills to follow.

Our initial goal was for each of us to ask 10 local businesses to donate one
hundred dollars each. Stacey and I tried going to the businesses that each of
us have some relationship/connection with. We thought it would be easier to ask
for donations that way. Knowing the economy, we thought it might be a bit
challenging, but people have been so generous. Being a small community, most
people had heard the story, so they did not hesitate to give. Everyone has
truly rallied for Mr. Yang and his family and it is so nice to see.

Since, I have a pastry shop I thought it would be easy enough to feature a different item for sale everyday where 100% of the proceeds would go towards helping Mr.Yang.  For one of our Bake Sales, we started with almost 100 lbs of sweet potato batter and we sold out by late afternoon. People have been spreading the word about how they can help.

The community has been wonderful with the businesses and residents of Berwyn and the surrounding towns wanting to help a kind man, whose life was altered in
seconds because of a senseless act. We often say, "It takes a village to
raise a child." Well, it also takes a village to help a neighbor.

People can still donate by contacting Stacy Ballard at Eadeh Enterprises at 610 647
1776 or Kim Cuthbert at Sweet Jazmines Pastry Shop at 610 644 1868. We will
follow-up with further information.
