John Glenn becomes oldest Astronaut to be launched into space - This Day in History – Oct 29th This Day in History – Oct 29th

Back in 1998, Astronaut John Glenn completed a second space mission with NASA at the age of 77.  While travelling on the space shuttle Discovery, this feat made Mr. Glenn the oldest human to travel to space.  Mr. Glenn was part of a nine-day study on the health problems associated with aging.

Mr. Glenn’s previous space mission was in the space shuttle Friendship 7, back in 1962.  His spacecraft made three orbits around the Earth in five hours. 

According to history.com, “In 1998, Glenn attracted considerable media attention when he returned to space aboard the space shuttle Discovery. In 1999, he retired from his U.S. Senate seat after four consecutive terms in office, a record for the state of Ohio.”

Actor, Oscar Winner, Richard Dreyfuss is born 

Back in 1947, Richard Dreyfuss was born in Brooklyn, NY.  Mr. Dreyfuss would later star in memorable movies such as “American Graffiti,” “Jaws,” “Close Encounters,” “Mr. Holland’s Opus” and his Oscar Winning role in “The Goodbye Girl.”  Mr. Dreyfuss usually plays a good guy in his movie roles, but recently he played a bad guy in the movie “Red.”
