On this day back in 1973, a huge media tennis event witnessed by 30,000 spectators was showcased in the Houston Astrodome, the “Battle of the Sexes."
The two rivals, Billie Jean King, the women’s top player and the men’s former #1 ranked player and self-proclaimed male chauvinist, Bobby Riggs decided to prove who was best in this tennis tournament.

At the time of this competition, King was a young 29-years-old. Riggs was 55-years-old. Riggs stated that at his age he could beat any woman due to their inferiority to men. Riggs also boasted that women were unable to handle pressure.
Well, Riggs was wrong. He lost to King 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Marvin Gaye’s father pleads no contest in Son’s Murder
Back in 1984, 70-year-old, Marvin Gaye Sr. agreed to a plea bargain in the shooting death of his son, entertainer, Marvin Gaye. This agreement kept the Sr. Gaye out of jail. Mr. Gaye stated that he received massive bruises from his son who was high on cocaine at the time. The shooting was ruled involuntary manslaughter.
Sexy Starlet, Sophia Loren is born
Back in 1934, Sophia Loren, future international sex symbol and actress, was born on September 20 in Rome Italy. Ms. Loren, who grew up in poverty, became Italy’s most famous sexy starlet. She appeared in films with high caliber actors such as Cary Grant and Clark Gable.
