Paoli's Arthur Murray's Dancing Stars

If you are a fan of the ABC TV’s reality show, “Dancing With the Stars,” then you will enjoy what Paoli’s Arthur Murray Dance Studio has to offer.  Within their 2nd floor, mirrored-wall atmosphere are three talented instructors, Kellie Doherty, Alex Frangoulis and Chelsea Simon along with Amanda Tyson, the New Student Director who helps to coordinate all of the upcoming class schedules.

Arthur Murray’s Dance Studio is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year.  According to this franchise’s website,  “The history of the Arthur Murray Franchised Dance Studios began in 1912 with a man named Arthur Murray, an American symbol of entrepreneurial success and social dancing. Murray was among the first to use advertising techniques considered cutting edge at the time. His concept of selling dance lessons by mail, one step at a time, took the use of direct mail to a new level.”

During this particular Thursday evening I witnessed a class lesson on the Waltz while 11 couples worked together with their, “balance steps, inside turns, shadow positions, spirals and pivots.”  The couples would turn and switch partners while gliding to rhythmic music around this dance studio.  Furthermore, the dance instructors would grab a partner to dance with them as well.

After the group lesson is finished, then the freestyle dancing began.  Students practiced their other dance steps taught which included the “Cha Cha,” “Fox Trot,” “Triple Swing,” “Sumba,” “Tango,” and of course, “Waltz.”
