Secret Service Foil Attempted Assassination of President Ford - This Day in History – Sept 5th

Back in 1975, a Secret Service agent foiled an assassination attempt on President Gerald Ford by Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme.  Ms. Fromme a follower of cult leader, Charles Manson approached the President with a .45-caliber pistol.   Ms. Fromme was sentenced to life in prison at the Alderson Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia. When Fromme heard that Manson was imprisoned and had cancer she escaped from prison.  After a 40 hour manhunt she was returned to prison and had five years added to her life sentence.

Back in 1964, the musical group, The Animals topped the U.S.  Pop charts with their hit, "House of the Rising Sun."  The eerie, pulsating lyrics, guitar and organ music grabbed attention and a cult following.
