The Bombing of Pearl Harbor is approved - This Day in History – Nov 3rd
This Day in History – Nov 3rd

Back in 1941, the Top-Secret Order No. 1: In 34 days time was received by the Combined Japanese Fleet to approve the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Mayala, the Dutch East Indies and the Philippines.
According to history.com, “Relations between the United States and Japan had been deteriorating quickly since Japan's occupation of Indochina in 1940 and the implicit menacing of the Philippines (an American protectorate), with the occupation of the Cam Ranh naval base only eight miles from Manila. American retaliation included the seizing of all Japanese assets in the States and the closing of the Panama Canal to Japanese shipping. In September 1941, Roosevelt issued a statement, drafted by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, that threatened war between the United States and Japan should the Japanese encroach any further on territory in Southeast Asia or the South Pacific.”

According to history.com, “with the Crystals back in New York, Phil Spector chose to record He's A Rebel with the Blossoms in Los Angeles in order to get the record out ahead of a competing version by Vicki Carr. Since the Blossoms and Darlene Love were complete unknowns, the record was credited to the Crystals.” Phil Spector would also use this lip-synced matchup-up to score another hit for the Crystals with the song, "He's Sure The Boy I Love (#11, February 1963).”
Darlene Love and the Blossoms would earn credit for their own singing for the following according to history.com, “two minor top 40 hits of her own in 1963 with "(Today I Met) The Boy I'm Gonna Marry" and "Wait Til' My Bobby Gets Home," but who would receive none of the credit for "He's A Rebel.”
The Crystals would finally get recognition for providing their own voices on a few songs of their own. According to history.com, “they would also earn even bigger hits, however, with songs they actually did record: "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)" (#3, June 1963) and "Then He Kissed Me" (#6, September 1963).”
Darlene Love, would later be inducted into the 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
