The first and only child to be born in White House - This Day in History – Sept 9th

Back in 1893, President Grover Cleveland and his wife Frances welcomed the first and only child born into the White House. The infant girl was named Esther. President Cleveland and Frances had conceived another girl before his presidency. Ruth leveland was born in 1891.

The new american nation is given a new name 

Back in 1776, the Continental Congress agreed to rename America from "United Colonies," to "United States" of America. By this date the Congress had adopted the Declaration of Independence and concluded that these states are to be “Free and Independent States.”

Koufax Pitches perfect game for Dodgers

Back in 1965, Los Angeles Dodger pitcher, Sandy Koufax completed the 8^th perfect game in major league history. The final score of the game, played at Dodgers Stadium against the Chicago Cubs, was 1-0.

President Johnson signs into law two vehicle safety acts

Back in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson approved two laws to establish vehicle safety. 

Mr. Johnson signed the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Highway Safety Act. 

According to history.com, “Unsafe highways, Johnson argued, were a menace to public health: "In this century," Johnson said before he signed the bills, "more than 1,500,000 of our fellow citizens have died on our streets and highways; nearly three times as many Americans as we have lost in all our wars." It was a genuine crisis, and one that the automakers had proven themselves unwilling or unable to resolve. "Safety is no luxury item," the President declared, "no optional extra; it must be a normal cost of doing business."
