The Phillies Had it All and Lost it !!!!!
The Phillies - Once the Winners; Now, the Clear Losers.
I am sure that as Phillies' fans, all of us remember Mr. Amaro's trade of Cliff Lee in late 2009 to acquire the so-called premier marquis pitcher, Roy Halladay. No disrespect to the Doc, trading Lee to get Halladay was a mistake in 2009 and looms even larger today as a greater mistake because now we have the 20-million dollar man on the shelf for the entire 2013 baseball season. Yes Phillies' fans, general manager Amaro blew it and he did it in a grand style. We will not see a World Series in Philadelphia again for a very, very long time thanks to Amaro who chose to sell season tickets instead of winning championships in Philadelphia. Roy Halladay sold tickets but he did not deliver what the people of Philadelphia and suburbs looked for, a championship and a World Series. Apologies accepted, but it does not lessen the pain of now having a second-rated baseball team in Philadelphia. The Phillies had a clear and sure winner in Cliff Lee in 2009 and let him go and no matter what excuses the Phillies' organization offers the people, they made a monumental mistake when they decided to trade Lee and replace him with Halladay. As a Phillies' fan for more than 40 years, I am to say the least, again disillusioned because now with the Braves and other East division teams getting stronger by the day, the Phillies will have to be content with last place when they were the team to beat in 2008, 2009 and would have been in 2010 had they not traded Cliff Lee. the same Cliff Lee who won the only two game in the 2009 World Series against the powerful Ne York Yankees. A disaster of the highest proportion for Philadelphia. A very sad, sad day for Phillies' fans everywhere.
