"Valley Forge" and "The Titanic," This Day in History – Dec 19th
Valley Forge, PA has the March of the Continental Army
Back in 1777, General George Washington marched in the bitter cold with the 11,000 members of the Continental Army at nearby Valley Forge that was 22 miles from the then British-occupied Philadelphia.
According to history.com, “Washington chose a site on the west bank of the Schuylkill River that could be effectively defended in the event of a British attack.” However, the men under Washington’s command were facing famine, disease and for some death due to their major defeats against the British.

In the following June Washington and the troops would march out of Valley Forge and according to history.com, “on June 19, 1778, the men were better disciplined and stronger in spirit than when they had entered. Nine days later, they won a victory against the British under Lord Cornwallis at the Battle of Monmouth in New Jersey.

Director James Cameron’s debuts the “King of the World” epic movie, “Titanic”
Back in 1997, Director, James Cameron premiered a movie classic based on the true story of the maiden voyage of the luxury liner, the Titanic. Sadly, the vessel struck an iceberg and sank, resulting in the deaths of more than 1500 passengers and crew.
The movie made stars of actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet along with wining an impressive 11 Academy Awards including best song for “My Heart Will Go On,” Best Picture and Best Director.
