Villanova University Mechanical Engineering Student Wins Naval Engineers Scholarship

Senior from Berwyn, Pa. honored for work inside and outside the classroom

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University Mechanical Engineering senior Evan Gonshor ’14 (Berwyn, Pa.) has received an American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. The ASNE award is based on academic performance, work history, professional promise, extracurricular activities and recommendations. Gonshor’s engineering concentration is in thermal/fluid systems and he is also pursuing Mathematics and Honors Program minors.

During three summer internships with Lockheed Martin, Gonshor gained experience designing boost-glide trajectory simulations, characterizing the dynamics of a payload after separation system activation, and extracting and analyzing data from wind tunnel tests and comparing predictions to actual results. In addition he learned how to program in FORTRAN and to use Tecplot, and augmented his Java programming skills. Gonshor also worked with a new software program, HEAT-TK, and wrote a user manual for future users.

Gonshor is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Villanova University Honors Program, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. His post-graduation plans include working in the mechanical engineering field while pursuing a Master’s degree, either in mechanical engineering or in business.
