Women Need to Stand With Paul Drucker

This Saturday, I attended a women’s brunch in support of State Representative candidate Paul Drucker.  Mr. Drucker articulated a thorough understanding of the issues facing women in Pennsylvania today.

Paul Drucker made the observation that women are the only true majority in our society. Because of this fact, women have the potential to decide this year’s election. “Women have been under attack for too long in Pennsylvania. It is up to women to speak up for their rights.” The Republican legislature in Harrisburg, including Mr. Drucker’s opponent, “have voted time and again to abridge women’s rights, and limit women’s access to affordable healthcare”.

Mr. Drucker reminded us that the Republican controlled legislature recently passed unfair regulations that have forced many women’s healthcare clinics to close, as well as legislation which seeks to ban private insurance from covering abortions, even in the case of a medical emergency for the mother. These efforts culminated with the infamous “ultrasound bill”, which attempted to force women to endure a painful, invasive, medically unnecessary trans-vaginal ultrasound, 24 hours prior to exercising our right to choose.  Although this proposal has been temporarily tabled, it has not been abandoned and will come up again. 

Paul Drucker added that this legislation, and these proposals, are serious attacks on women’s rights and freedoms, and we should not accept the status quo. I agree.  If we women cannot control the timing of our reproductive ability to bring children into the world then we essentially have become slaves each to our own reproductive capacity. All other issues for women become moot.

Mr. Drucker understands Women’s Issues and Stands With Us. I urge pro choice women and men to vote for Mr. Drucker on Nov. 6th.  Help Bring Sanity Back to Harrisburg.
