President Woodrow Wilson is Born
Back in 1856 in the town of Staunton, VA, the future 28th President of the United States, Thomas Woodrow Wilson was born. Mr. Wilson served as the President of Princeton University, and the Governor of New Jersey before his American Presidency from 1913 to 1921.
According to history.com, “Wilson won election to his first term in the White House as a Democrat in 1912 on a campaign program called The New Freedom, which stressed individualism and states' rights. From the day he took office in March 1913—when a parade organized by the Congressional Union, later to become known as the National Organization for Women, drew crowds away from the inauguration ceremonies—Wilson had to contend with the growing controversy over women's suffrage on the home front. His administration saw the passage of several major acts of legislation, including the Federal Reserve Act and the creation of the Federal Trade Commission, designed to regulate business practices.”

President Wilson left the White house in 1921 at the age of 65. He would later die at the age of 68 from a physical breakdown and paralyzing stroke in 1924.

Oscar Winner, Denzel Washington is Born
Back in 1954, Mount Vernon, NY welcomed the birth of future actor and Academy Award winner, Denzel Washington. Known for his high caliber performances in movies such as Training Day, Malcolm X, Antoine Fisher, The Great Debaters, Philadelphia and Glory, Mr. Washington has come a long way from his role of Dr. Phillip Chandler in the television series, St. Elsewhere.
Mr. Washington is the winner of two Academy Awards:
- Best Supporting Actor for “Glory”
- Best Actor for “Training Day”
According to history.com, “In 2002, for his performance as a corrupt cop in Training Day, Washington became the first black man to win the Best Actor Academy Award since 1964, when Sidney Poitier received the award for Lilies of the Field.”
The 57 year-old actor who was named People’s Magazine's “Sexist Man Alive” in 1996, continues to choose movie characters that are not only interesting but memorable as well.
Special note: Denzel Washington is the cousin of local KYW-TV’s Anchorman, Ukee Washington.
