Conestoga Boys Lacrosse sends “Comforts from Home”

Boys lacrosse team supports St. Norbert's parish day of service

A year ago in the St. Norbert's church bulletin Tate Kienzle saw a way to help out. Simple comforts from home were being collected to send to the military deployed abroad. Tate brought this opportunity to his Conestoga Lacrosse teammates who all decided that they wanted to work together to support the program. After the initial shipment with St. Norbert's, the team continued their “Comforts from home” shipments throughout the year. They also formed a special connection with one of the recipients of the care packages, SSGT Paski, whose parents are parishioners. While on leave last Spring, SSGT Paski was able to speak to the team at one of their practices and join them on the sidelines for a game.

When the parish reached out to the team for their assistance again this year, there was no question that the boys would once again go above and beyond! The boys lacrosse team provided the vast majority of the 337 lbs. of tastycakes, salty snacks, gum and mints, beef jerky, peanut butter, socks, playing cards, magazines, batteries, and toiletries. Dr. Bernadette Logan and her son, Matt, generously provided over 100 dental hygiene kits.

The players took time before one of their lacrosse practices to sort the donations prior to the day of service where the items were packed and shipped to four different military bases. 3 of the military bases (Ft Campbell, KY- Ft Hood, TX - Beale Air Base, CA) are stateside and the comforts will follow the troops when they are deployed in the next month. The fourth shipment was sent to servicemen deployed at an army base in Italy.
