Early reports indicated that on a recent, routine pre-Christmas test flight that Blitzen slipped on icy conditions upon landing and may be out for the season.
Devon Veterinary Hospital emergency crew was called to the crash site to evaluate the condition of Santa’s most trusted and strongest magical reindeer. Dr. Carol Caracand, lead veterinarian in the North Pole region, reported “we had a tough time just getting to the herd, weather conditions right now are bitter here at the North Pole….but it seems that Blitzen’s knee may just be bruised. Rumors in Hooville that the cruciate ligament was torn are false. We expect with some rest, he’ll be flying by the weekend.” Ruldolph spoke on behalf of the team, “it all happened so fast, but we train for snowy conditions so we can make it around the world on Christmas Eve as efficiently as possible. We’re glad he’s OK.”
Blitzen is expected at the Berwyn Devon Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 8 to greet all the area children and families with Santa and Mrs. Claus!! Blitzen commented, “I’ll be fine, Dasher offered to take my place but I am really looking forward to meeting everyone at the Berwyn Train station this Sunday….Prancer was there last year and said it was AWESOME!!”
