Devon Train Station Catches Fire Monday

Crews from area fire companies leaped into action Christmas Day when the fire broke out and damaged part of the station.

DEVON, PA – The Devon SEPTA Station caught fire on Christmas Day, sending crews from nearby fire companies out on the holiday to quell the blaze.

According to the Berwyn Fire Company, crews were called to the station at about 12:32 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25 for a building fire.

The overhanging roof of the westbound platform had smoke coming from it when crews arrived and part of the roof fell off, blocking the train tracks, the fire company said.

The fire company said all westbound trains were halted until the scene was clear. SEPTA officials said the service experienced minimal interruptions due to trains operating on a holiday schedule.

Firefighters had the fire under control quickly, by about 12:51 p.m., according to the fire company.

The Chester County Fire Marshals Office and the SEPTA Fire Marshal declared the fire accidental, the fire company said.

SEPTA officials said the total damage to the station is still unknown, but train service is operating as regularly scheduled.

Crews from the Radnor, Paoli, and Newtown Square fire companies, as well as Easttown Township Police Department, responded to the scene.
