Board of Supervisors select the person to fill the vacancy on the board

On Monday January 15, the Easttown Board of Supervisors met to fill a vacancy on the board when the candidate who won one of the positions in the Nov 2017 election had to drop out. By law, the Board has the authority to choose who will fill this position. Of the 2 positions to be filled, one was clearly won by Betsy Fadem. The candidate with the second most votes was the one who had to drop out. It would seem logical that the candidate with the 3rd most votes would win the vacated position. That person was the public's choice, after all, but that candidate is a Democrat. Each Board member made comments concerning who should be appointed. Apparently anyone can send in their CV and can be considered for the position even if that person has not campaigned for that position. One of those people just happened to be at the meeting and just happened to be the one chosen for the position--what a coincidence. Despite over 300 names on a petition to put the candidate coming in third--the Democrat--the Board was intent on choosing a person who represents the "vast majority", quote by Mr. Heppe, of Easttown Township. He could not define "vast majority" and none of the other Board members, except Betsy Fadem, would consider the one extremely well-qualified Democrat with the third most votes to fill the position. This is your Board of Supervisors, intent on keeping power and excluding other voices to be heard. This is partisan politics at its worst and Mr. Heppe, Mr. Oram, and Mr. Polites should be ashamed of themselves.
