Who:   Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church & Cemetery, Devon, Pa

The featured Church and Cemetery is the “Old” (AME) Church, cornerstone 1861. We are only the second church to be featured in the history of the tour.  


Founded in 1849; the first African American congregation of any denomination, and the oldest and continuous AME Church on the entire Main Line.

Also, on the Main Line, Mt. Zion AME has been the only African American church of any denomination with a cemetery.  


What: 8th Annual Historic House Tour, sponsored by the Tredyffrin Historic Preservation Trust, Devon, Pa, rain or shine. This Tour includes 6 Private Homes, 2 Restored Barns and a Historic Church and Cemetery.  


When: September 22, 2012, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM  


Where: Mt. Zion AME Church & Cemetery, 380 N. Fairfield Road, Devon, Pa, 19333  


Special Event:  This Cemetery portion is FREE and Open to the Public.   (For entrance into all Tour Buildings, see Ticket Information below.)  


Civil War Soldier Re-enactors of the 22nd United States Colored Infantry (USCI), based in the Asbury Park, NJ area – includes a Historic Presentation, Exhibit, and loading and firing of rifles demonstration.


Times: 1:30 to 2:00, 2:10 to 2:40, 2:50 to 3:20, and 3:30 to 4:00 PM.

Why:    All proceeds from the annual historic house tour go toward Phase II of the Jones Log Barn reconstruction project in the Wilson Farm Park, Wayne, Pa. Its stone foundation is complete and is ready to hold the log structure. The Jones Log Barn joins two National Historic Register buildings – Duportail House and the Federal Barn - and, when rebuilt, it will serve as a living history museum for the community.
