This summer, as part of Tredyffrin Public Library's new Adult Summer Reading program "Novel Destinations", the library will show four feature films that have been adapted from short stories. The second film will be FIELD OF DREAMS, directed by Phil Alden Robinson, 1989. The original short story by W.P. Kinsella is titled "Shoeless Joe Jackson Comes to Iowa" [originally titled "It Had to be Murder"].
Read the original story, then come to the library for a viewing of the film and an informal discussion facilitated by local film buffs Kate Currigan and Lori O'Connor. Copies of the short stories are available at Tredyffrin Public Library or in the Chester County Library System catalog. Explore the similarities and differences between the two mediums and see how well each story translates to the big screen.
