Fire Breaks Out At Building Under Construction In Tredyffrin

Strong winds fanned the flames as crews attempted to extinguish the blaze, but crews were able to quell the fire after about seven hours.

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, PA — A three-alarm fire at a five-story building under construction prompted dozens of firefighters to respond and battle the fire for hours Sunday in Tredyffrin Township, according to local fire officials.

Crews from the Paoli, Berwyn, Radnor, Gladwyne, and Lower Providence fire companies were called to a structure on the 900 block of Atwater Drive in Tredyffrin at about 3:02 p.m. Sunday for a structure fire, the Berwyn Fire Company said.

Firefighters spent several hours battling the three-alarm blaze in heavy winds, eventually clearing the scene by 10:30 p.m.

Two responders suffered minor injuries, according to the Berwyn Fire Company. No one else was hurt in the fire.

According to the Radnor Fire Company, the fire started in the basement and spread into the upper floors.

The building in question is a retirement community — called Echo Lake — that is unoccupied as it is still under construction.
