Contrary to what the Legislature is hysterically trumpeting, there is no "safety crisis" in Pennsylvania highway work zones that requires speed cameras for traffic enforcement. PennDOT's own data shows that 75% of the PennDOT workers killed were accidents with other workers or work machinery, and that less than 1 worker every two years has been killed by motorists since 1970. While every death is a tragedy, there is no reason to institute a "pilot" program of speed cameras in work zones, except to put money stolen from safe drivers into the pockets of the special interests and the government. Re-engineering of the work zones along with proper signage will make them safer without the speed cameras.
It’s not surprising that PennDOT and Harrisburg don’t want you to know these things, as it puts a crimp in their plans to rob safe driving motorists, and to put speed cameras everywhere in Pennsylvania to assure a steady stream of revenue into state coffers and the special interests pushing for cameras.
Contact your state Senator and state Representative and tell them to VOTE NO on Senate Bill 172.
Thank you.
