Real World Failure

America used to be a "can-do" nation. Why do we accept things that not only don't work, but actually cause harm?

To All Pennsylvania Drivers:

My opposition to speed cameras comes from the real-world experience of the failure of the cameras to deliver any safety benefits.

Washington, D.C. speed cameras have not improved traffic safety. Accident rates have not improved in Washington, D.C. after issuing $500 million in speed camera tickets.

Washington, D.C. has been using speed cameras for more than a decade, but traffic safety has not improved. The city's private vendors have mailed more than 7 million photo tickets and collected a half-billion dollars in revenue; injury accidents have not declined as they have throughout the rest of the country.

This is what Philadelphia will get: $500+ million stolen from drivers for nothing. What more evidence do our Legislators need to VOTE NO on Speed Trap Bill SB 172, authorizing speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard?

Speed cameras only raise money, they do not improve safety. This IS an election year. Tell your Senator and Representative, over and over, to VOTE NO on Speed Trap Bill SB 172. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tom McCarey Member, National Motorists Association
